Camping on the Spit

Camping on the Homer Spit involves lots of campfires, lots of s'mores, and hangin' out with friends! It certainly doesn't hurt to get in a little reading practice, either!

Dogs, Water and Sticks

Where there is water and sticks to be found you can also find Ben and our golden retriever, Scout. Of our three dogs, Scout is our true water dog and like Ben, she doesn't care how cold the water is! Summit, the chocolate lab, tries to get in on the fun!

Fun on the Beach

Ben's favorite things to do on the beach are to look for shells, find drift wood for mom's driftwood collection (I have a project in mind:-) and romp with the dogs in the waves. He loves the water, no matter how cold it is, and he will usually be the kid that is the wettest!

Small Boat Harbor

Up on a hill overlooking the small boat harbor is a wonderful little spot that houses the Spit Sisters coffee shop and some cute specialty shops. While we mom's enjoyed our coffee, the boy's picked bouquets of dandylions and threw rocks down the hill in the general direction of the water.

Just for the Halibut

Our friend, Mary, made all of the boys fish T-shirts. It was so cute to see all five little boys in their bright red fish shirts. I don't think that Ben took his off the whole weekend! He loves to watch Daddy clean the halibut. He asked to hold an eye and the tail and Daddy obliged!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day means....HOMER! We made the pilgrimage once again to Homer, AK. We had the absolute best weather that we have ever had. It was sunny and beautiful the whole time we were there. Homer is a very pretty place, but you just can't beat it when there is sunshine, blue skies and no wind!!

The low tides left loads of purple sea stars on the beach. It was lots of fun looking for them and holding them on your hands...they tickle!!

More Birthday Fun

Birthday parties mean fun, friends and wonderful memories!

May Birthdays

Rob and Ben both celebrated their birthdays in May. We surprised Daddy with a cake and Ben got to go to Red Robin for dinner and a special ice cream sundae! We surprised Ben and had an indoor swimming party at "Swim Like A Fish." It was a lot of fun and he had 13 friends that were very good at keeping a secret!

Redoubt Volcano

Redoubt Volcano started waking up in March. On March 28 we received an ash cloud. It turned the sky an eery yellowish-gray and coated everything with a fine layer of ash. It was kinda fun to go to the grocery store where everyone else was also wearing a mask!

Thank you, Ms. Shawn

Ahh! Refreshments!

Upon the completion of a darling preschool program, we enjoyed refreshments. The kids found a surprise at their seats... a new book from their teachers!

Performing Preschoolers

After their Christmas play, the kids sang songs, and were surprised by a visit from Santa!

Preschool Program

Ben was one of the kings in his Preschool Program. He said his line perfectly! "Let's follow that star!"

Happy Dogs!

The girls enjoyed having us home for the holidays, too!

Christmas in Alaska

This was our first year to celebrate Christmas at home. Ben was thrilled that Santa wouldn't have to go looking for him. He came down our very own chimney!

Thanksgiving - 2008

We spent another fun Thanksgiving with friends. It was our last holiday to spend with newly-weds Dwight and Tandy Martin before they left for Texas. The kids got to go sledding, while the adults visited, played with the Wii, or got some knitting in.
